MITHILA ART
There was a royal wedding in Janakpur -
That Nepali town on a mountain spur -
It was such an important, historic event
That the people unleashed their artistic bent.
They took their clever but kinda bland art
And added the colours that sang in their heart.
They painted every house in sight
The awesome designs that still delight.
Ram and Sita were married that day
And still now, the colourful art holds sway.
It's naïve, and bright, and tells the story
Of that grand marriage in all its glory.
It also tells of the everyday lives
Of the people of Janakpur as seen by the wives.
For it's women who ply this magnificent skill;
In a Women's Co-op. And they ply it still.
