A beautiful, decorative piece with meaning. Painted brass Nepali meditation singing bowl, each hand-decorated with many of the motifs of Bhuddism.
The origin of the Singing Bowl is lost in the mists of time and ancient monasteries. However, Buddha, who began his life as a Nepalese prince, is said to have introduced the mystique and beauty of the singing bowl into Buddhist practice. Now widely appreciated for its mesmerising sound, it’s used in meditation, healing, music-making and relaxation. The singing bowl comes in many sizes, the larger ones using vibration for healing. To make the bowl sing, tap first to get it vibrating then move the mallet in a clockwise direction around the outside of the rim with an even motion.
We loved watching Kirat, our Nepali agent, go into a trance when he set the singing bowl vibrating (photo below)
