Hand-made terracotta small bowl (used as a lantern in Nepal), hand-painted with naïve Mithila art depicting various icons of Nepali Life. Birds=peace, elephants=good luck, turtles=good relationship and fish=safe travel. Seriously gorgeous little gifts. Sizes vary from 75-110g weight, 105-110m diameter X 3.5-4cm high.
These bowls are found in the marketplaces by the thousands in their plain form, and sold with wicks to put in the oil that is used in some Nepali homes for lighting. It's very unusual to find them painted with this wonderful village art, and lacquered.
